In his opening remarks at the Folkestone Symphony concert on Saturday 2nd March, conductor Rupert Bond made reference to the terrible weather that evening.

Folkestone Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rupert Bond performed its Autumn Concert in Holy Trinity Church, Folkestone on Remembrance Day, Saturday 11 November, and opened fittingly with a noble performance of the National Anthem.

Folkestone Symphony will then perform what has been covered in the workshop and possibly some pieces from their repertoire at 3.30 pm.

Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 1 in G minor "Winter Dreams"

This demanding programme, so skilfully performed, admirably showed the variety and sheer delight of the romantic repertoire.

For this concert, Folkestone Symphony Orchestra was joined by the FESIC Choir conducted by Helen Brooks and the Folkestone Young Strings conducted by Floriane Peycelon.

The orchestra played two movements from the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky, 'Sleigh Ride' by Leroy Anderson and music from the film 'Superman'. We also played 'An Overture on old English Carols' by John Whittaker, who came along to hear us.  The choir joined us in a rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas which was arranged by Peter Aviss, one of the orchestra's Viola players.

Two overtures, a rarely-performed 20th century concerto and a much-loved symphony – this was a magnificent, varied and demanding programme to open the season of concerts by the Folkestone Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rupert Bond and led by local violinist Floriane Peycelon.

Folkestone Symphony’s postponed (the 60 year landmark was last year) Diamond Concert was worth waiting for and it was good to see a large audience in the grandiosity of Leas Cliff Hall to enjoy it.
